1894 TAKEDOWN LEVER ACTION RIFLE. Cal. 32 WS. S# 232478. Mfg. 1904. Bbl. 26" Oct. Nickel steel with dovetailed Marbles 37W white bead front sight. Dovetailed Winchester Express rear sight. Bbl markings include; "Manufactured by the Winchester Repeating Arms Co./ New Haven. Conn. U.S.A. Patented August 21. 1894." & "Nickel Steel Barrel / Especially for Smokeless Powder" . 1/2 magazine. Blued takedown action with plain trigger that has factory documented "Light Trigger Pull" & Lyman No.1 combination tang sight of the second variation. The left side of the lower tang is marked "19539 XX R" Factory style H checkered pistol grip XX walnut stock set with replacement blued checkered steel shotgun buttplate marked on the underside "1832". The top tang channel of the butt is marked with "19539 94". UNATTACHED ACCESSORIES: Waddy Colvert Firearms research letter listing the configuration as "Rifle / 32 WS Caliber / Octagon barrel, Extra light weight / 1/2 magazine / Checkered stock with pistol grip / Shotgun butt rubber / Takedown / Winchester Express rear, Lyman front and rear sights / Received in warehouse August 19, 1904 / Shipped from warehouse August 24, 1904, order number 242097". CONDITION: overall very fine with the barrel retaining approx 95% coverage with some thinning high edge and muzzle wear with a few minor freckled spots of oxidation and very minor handling marks. The mag tube shows a bit of thinning finish at the muzzle end of the tube. The receiver retains approx 60% coverage of its original blue with thinning carry wear that has changed to a greyish brown patina and showing scattered light handling marks and a few minor scratches. The loading gate has good vibrant fire blue with some thinning retaining approx 75% coverage with some light freckled spots of old oxidation. The case coloring on the lever has faded with some of the protected area retaining visible traces of the finish. Stock set with some honest wear to the checkering points and some scattered light handling marks and evidence of a minor sanding, likely when the replacement buttplate was fit. There is a decently executed 3" repaired chip at the toe. Bore is lightly frosted with mild pitting and sharp rifling. (25-1318/ZAL). CURIO. $1,500-2,250.
